[birdky] Photos from recent pelagic trips

Fellow TN & KY birders:

If anyone is interested, I've posted a LOT of photos from a 3-day string of pelagics that Steve McConnell and I did last week off the Outer Banks of NC with Brian Patteson. We had a great trip, and if you've never done it, it can have some local effect in that it gives a great opportunity to get to know some of those birds we usually only get as Hurricane waifs here in TN or KY, only with much better looks.

I'm still using a Panasonic point and shoot, but the photos all in all came out much better than I was expecting. I have about 90 shots posted, and they are in chronological order, not by species as I usually do it. Among the birds I've posted photos of are all 5 regular east coast Shearwaters, Fea's and Herald (Trindade) Petrels as well as Black-capped, loads of Wilson's Storm-Petrels as well as poor images of both Leach's and Band-rumped, all 3 Jaegers plus multiple Skuas and a poor shot of an Arctic Tern. We did some landbirding on our last day and I've posted several shots each of Roseate Tern and Purple Sandpiper, which are both at the end of the gallery on page 2.

If anyone has considered doing one of these, this is my 2nd time out with Brian Patteson, and I couldn't recommend him enough. Besides his own expertise, he usually has other experienced leaders on board, for us this included Steve Howell; spending 3 days with him was worth the price alone!

I apologize if anyone feels this is off-topic, feel free to delete at will.

The photos are on two pages in the following gallery: http://www.pbase.com/mctodd/nc_2007 Double-clicking any image will enlarge it.

Good Birding!!
