About 1000 American white pelicans are using the Lake Barkley islands just west
of the channel across from Little River. The AWP are flying daily up Little
River beyond Lake Barkley St. Park and then back to the mid-lake islands hours
later. Strangely, compared to recent years, there are less than 100 dc
cormorants from Rock Castle to a mile south of Little River. In years past
numbers this time of the year in this area would be closer to 8,000. With
about 700 dcc nests in this area now, I would have guessed 10,000 or more dccs
at this time.
