Since my parents had no boys and I was the oldest girl, my father
taught me a lot about farming. He had Hereford cattle and my farm
chores consisted of tending to the cattle. The herd was not so large but
what he housed them in the barns in the winter-time.
One cold winter day as we stood and watched the cows tear into
hay bales on the hillside below the feeding shed, he confessed to me that he
had a name for each of his brood cows.
That was in the days before they wore ear-tags for ID's. But for
the life of me ,I can't figure out how Dave can tell one of those
Pectorals from the other. Joyce Porter
