There wasn't much bird movement apparent today on the mines but what a gorgeous time to be out. Aside from a couple of fly-over flocks of Green-winged Teal, the only waterfowl observed other than resident honkers was a flock of Ring-necked Ducks and a female American Wigeon on South Lake/Homestead. Overall raptor numbers were also low with Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned, Cooper's, Red-shouldered, and Red-tailed Hawks and American Kestrel present. Red-shouldered was the most conspicuous species. I spent a lot of time looking through sparrows with a Grasshopper Sparrow present along S5 on Sinclair and a Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow photographed at a beaver pond along Wysox Road in Ohio County. A pair of fly-over calling Pine Siskins was observed during a hike into the Ken hills in Ohio County. David L.
