This is a really skinny pine tree and branches are at a premium, but they
support a big eagle nest at least three years old and today three of the
occupants. The adult was on the bottem branch, an equally sized chick was in
the nest and the other chick was poised at the top of the tree pumping its
wings as if to take off any minute. On second thought it plopped down next to
its sibling and decided to enjoy the safety of home for yet another day.
Slept on the porch at my cabin and enjoyed night calls of the chuck-will's
widow, barred and great horned owls and the early morning orchestra of bird
calls. Highlights were two Wilson's warblers singing along with a lingering
yellow-rump, at least five female American redstarts, and a flock of cedar
waxwings.
