Eddie Huber and I found 3 imm/female black scoters at the water tower on the Ohio River at about 10 am today. At about 10:30 there was a white pelican at the basin above the Falls. About 5 rafts of ducks between the water tower and the Falls include about 50 horned grebes, 2 common loons, 30 bufflehead and smaller #'s of ruddy ducks, redheads, scaup and pied-billed grebes. In addition Jane Bell heard then saw about 45 sandhill cranes flying over at Towhead Island. Brainard may have misinterpreted my call to him reporting MANY birds as I was excited to see the first real movement of ducks into the area that I've seen this Fall. He was right that it was a very good day to be out looking on the river. Matt Stickel Louisville
