Habitat is looking good and the birds are stopping for a visit. I saw a
funny thing yesterday while scoping the mud flats. A DC Cormorant was on
shore
walking around with the geese. It was a behavior I've not seen before. It
was not very graceful and had more of a waddle than a walk.
The number of birds had increased considerably this morning. Melissa and I
paddled (or mud vaulted) to three areas of the flats. Species seen were:
Wood Duck
Blue-winged teal
DC Cormorant
Great Egret
Bald Eagle - 1
Semipalmated Plover - 4
Killdeer
Greater Yellowlegs - 17
Lesser Yellowlegs
Solitary Sandpiper - 2
Spotted Sandpiper - 10
Semipalmated Sandpiper - numbers increased to over 20
Western Sandpiper - at least 28
Least Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper - they wouldn't stay still for a count
Stilt Sandpiper - 8 juvenile
Short-billed Dowitcher - 1 juvenile
Caspian Tern
White-eyed vireo - several still calling
