[birdky] Mitchell Lake Today

Made a mid morning tour of Ballard WMA.  Happy Hollow and Burnt slough are dry 
as are all other moist soil areas.  Lower Beaver Dam slough is very low and 
already has a lot of grass in it.  Mitchell is higher than I expected and 
should provide excellent shorebird habitat if the Dept will conduct a fall draw 
down.  There is currently about 1/2 acre of bar exposed in the lake.  This bar 
is covered with grass as is the remaining shoreline around the lake.  Birds of 
interest included:

Snow goose  2
Mallard  15
Can goose-20 (Hopefully the 1000+ they relocated to Mitchell in the last couple 
of years have left)
Miss Kite  4
Bald Eagle 2 adults
Least Tern  1
Great egret  5
Cliff swallow
N rough-w swallow
Dickcissels still calling
