I took a day of vacation today and visited Minor E. Clark fish hatchery. Three
ponds have been drained. Each had a mixed group of shorebirds. Here's what I
saw:
Killdeer - 50+
Least Sandpiper - 20+
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 3
Baird's Sandpiper - 1
Spotted Sandpiper - 3
Kinfishers - 4
Green Heron - 25+
Great Blue Heron - 2
Great Egret - 1
Yellow-rummped Warbler - 1
Turkey Vulture - 17
Red-shouldered Hawk - 1
Canada Geese - 50+
Mallard - 8
Blue-winged Teal - 1
Eastern Kingbird - 3
I'm planning on going back on Labor Day. By then there should be at least six
more ponds drained and hopefully a wider variety of shorebirds.
