[birdky] Minor Clark Fish Hatchery: Saturday 11/26/04

I finally got a chance to get out and down to the fish hatchery again.
Yesterday had to be one of the slowest days that I've ever seen there.

Checking in the back area as well as the ponds gave little sounds,
movement....and birds.

Here's what I did see after a couple of hours:

Osprey
Bald Eagles (2 juvenile and 1 adult)
Pied-billed Grebe
4 Eastern Bluebirds
6 Mallards
Canada Geese 
2 Belted Kingfishers
2 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers
American Kestrel
Red-shouldered Hawk
6 Crows
20+ Great Blue Herons (At one point there were 20 GBH's in one pond)
(There were NO bluejays....first time I haven't seen them there)

Shallow Flats Observation area:

Many pairs of Gadwall
2 Male Buffleheads
2 Pairs of Hooded Mergansers
Either 2 Scaups or Ring-necked ducks (It is so hard to see some edges of the
ponds and I just kept getting glimpses of them)


In Northern Kentucky there has been no real activity at Marydale.  At Camp
Ernst there has only been 1 female Ruddy duck last seen a week ago and 2
Pied-billed Grebes seen Wednesday.  I did have a Cooper's Hawk land on my
back railing where the bird feeders are......gave some nice excitement to my
son who was home from college.
