Hi all, I had an immature Golden Eagle flyover Minor Clark Fish Hatchery in Rowan County at about 1:00pm. The white tail with thick band on the edge, and golden nape were observed. This particular bird did not have very noticeable white wing patches at the base of the primaries, but they were present (very small). The bird briefly flew over Cave Run dam, which would be Bath County airspace before I lost it flying east, southeast. This would be at least the second fall/winter in a row that one has been in the area. Other sightings from the weekend: 8 Shoveler, 9 Hooded Mergansers, Wood Duck, and Winter Wren at Minor Clark on 11/12/2011. 3 Shoveler, 2 Pintail, 40+ Gadwall, 20 Widgeon, 3 Bufflehead, 14 Hooded Mergansers, 2 Ring-necked Duck, 5 PB Grebe and Coots at Shallow Flats, DBNF 11/12/2011 3 Pine Sisken along Leatherwood Rd in NE Menifee Co. 11/13/2011 500+ Coot and a Sharp-shinned Hawk off the beach in the Zilpo Rec Area.
