Migrant highlights from 11 September 2002:

Juvenile Sabine's Gull photographed resting with
Ring-billed Gulls on a gravel spit near Green Turtle
Bay Marina on Lake Barkley.

Juvenile and 1st winter Laughing Gulls at Barkley and
Kentucky Dams.

Second year Lesser Black-backed Gull below Smithland
Dam.

200+ Caspian Terns between Kuttawa and Barkley Dam.

Shorebird habitat has diminished as the lakes have
risen. Numbers were down at Jonathan Creek and Blood
River on Kentucky Lake, although most of the species
reported in the past week were still present including
Baird's, Buff-breasted, and Stilt Sandpipers.

Shorebirds present at Meng's Pond in Warren County
yesterday, 10 September, included a Buff-breasted
Sandpiper, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 4 Lesser Yellowlegs,
Pectoral, Least, Spotted, and Solitary Sandpipers, as
well as snipe.

Migrant warblers in the back yard on 10 September
included Hooded and 2 Tennessee.
