Migrant highlights from 11 September 2002: Juvenile Sabine's Gull photographed resting with Ring-billed Gulls on a gravel spit near Green Turtle Bay Marina on Lake Barkley. Juvenile and 1st winter Laughing Gulls at Barkley and Kentucky Dams. Second year Lesser Black-backed Gull below Smithland Dam. 200+ Caspian Terns between Kuttawa and Barkley Dam. Shorebird habitat has diminished as the lakes have risen. Numbers were down at Jonathan Creek and Blood River on Kentucky Lake, although most of the species reported in the past week were still present including Baird's, Buff-breasted, and Stilt Sandpipers. Shorebirds present at Meng's Pond in Warren County yesterday, 10 September, included a Buff-breasted Sandpiper, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 4 Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral, Least, Spotted, and Solitary Sandpipers, as well as snipe. Migrant warblers in the back yard on 10 September included Hooded and 2 Tennessee.
