At Ash Pond ( Dix Dam)
I took a trip up there to see if I could find the Anhinga I had seen yesterday.
It wasn't there but what an assortment of shorebirds. Semipalmated Plover,
Killdeer, and Least Sandpiper were all seen at the front of the pond. The rest
of the waders and shore birds were seen at the back. On the way to Shaker
Village to bird we saw a T.V. being mobbed by roughly 6 Red Wing Blackbirds.
1 Semipalmated Plover
10 + Killdeer
6 Least Sandpiper
3 Semipalmated Sandpiper
4 Spotted Sandpiper
2 Solitary Sandpiper
1 Dunlin
1 Great Blue Heron
1 Green Heron
2 D.C. Cormorant
5 Mallard ( on the tiny wee pond towards the back of Ash Pond)
4 Canada Goose
The various assorment of usual birds were present too. E. Meadowlark,
Mockingbirds, C. Grackle, Song Sparrow, Red Tail Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Black
Vulture, and E. Starlings.
Shaker Village yielded the following
15 + Canada Geese ( 3 pairs with young)
2 Yellow Rumped Warbler
7 Common Grackle
Now I think I am off to "The Refuge" to see whats flying around out there.
Take care,
Ed Richards
