[birdky] McElroy 22 October 2002

McElroy Lake in Warren County has begun to drop and
will probably be gone in a couple of days. Water in
the ditch and a few small pools should persist for a
few days longer.

All dabbling duck species were present again today
along with Ring-necked and Lesser Scaup.

Shorebird numbers are fluctuating, but most of the
previously reported species were present. Highlights
today included a minimum of 138 Dunlin, 9 Stilt
Sandpipers, and 8 Long-billed Dowitchers, all resting
in the vegetation near the northern end of the lake.
Several Tree Swallows and a Barn Swallow were also
present.

A Merlin was observed at Chaney Lake near Woodburn.
