[birdky] May 13th count in Hart Co.

The Hart Co Birding Association, dictator-for-life Kistler presiding, tallied
110 species on Saturday. As usual, shorebirds were pretty much absent. The wind
really kicked up a few times, but the predicted showers held off.
Highlights included a farm pond with 30 wood ducks, not counting young. About
half of the adults were males in beautiful spring plumage. Also, 23 species of
warblers, 4 cormorants (new to this count), and a marsh wren. A yellow-bellied
flycatcher was a lifer for several of us. Tree swallows were almost impossible
to find here ten years ago; Saturday we had 31.
Kestrels waited until very late in the day to put in an appearance and we never
did find Cooper's hawks or cuckoos.
All in all, a great day to be outdoors.
Steve K.
