[birdky] Mammoth Cave 19 April 2005

A hike at Mammoth Cave this morning had many returning
resident birds in full song. Among them were
Yellow-throated and Red-eyed Vireos, Northern Parula,
Cerulean, Yellow-throated, Kentucky, Black and White,
and Worm-eating Warblers, along with Ovenbird and
Scarlet Tanager.

Butterflies were abundant with interesting species
observed being Olympia Marble, Harvester (eleven with
an amazing ten in one spot!), Sleepy Duskywing,
numerous Zebra Swallowtails, West Virginia Whites, and
Gemmed Satyrs, along with Pepper and Salt Skipper.

Many wildflowers added to the enjoyment and it was a
fabulous morning to be in the woods.
