We are seeing more juvenile birds during our banding sessions at Clarks
River NWR now. Our July 15 session was rained out and we tried to complete it
on
July 21. The temperatures soared so we closed the nets after a few hours.
Yesterday was a perfect day to be in the woods.
Birds banded in the last two sessions.
Yellow-throated Vireo - 1 new band
Red-eyed Vireo - 1 new band
Northern Cardinal - 3 new bands 2 unbanded
Acadian Flycatcher - 2 new bands 3 recapture
Wood Thrush -1 new band
Ruby throated Hummingbird - 1 unbanded
Blue gray Gnatcatcher - 2 new bands
Kentucky Warbler - 8 new bands 1- recapture
Louisiana Waterthrush - 1 new band
Indigo Bunting - 1 new band, 1 recapture
A bird of interest seen and heard in the woods yesterday was a Least
Flycatcher. Another rare summer bird reported on the refuge was a
Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker.
