[birdky] Louisville area Feb. 1

75-80 SNOW BUNTINGS and 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR near the intersection of
Chamberlain Lane and (Old) Brownsboro Rd. near the Jefferson / Oldham County
line. One flock of 75 birds seemed to be only snow buntings. Another flock
was mostly horned larks, with a handful of snow buntings and a Lapland
longspur mixed in. Several flocks were moving around the fields in the
area. They seemed to settle in to feed for 5-10 minutes and then fly a few
to several hundred yards away and repeat the cycle.
Directions: This may be the same location Brainard previously posted. It's
in the NE part of Louisville, I-265 exit 34 onto 22. Go 0.8 miles (past
Chamberlain Lane) and then left onto Hwy. 1694, Brownsboro Rd. (sign doesn't
say "Old" as I recall). Fields are on left in a mile or less. (You will
cross over I-71 on the way.) One field that has a sign 10900 Brownsboro Rd.
is where I saw the largest flock. If you keep going on Brownsboro, you can
turn left onto Chamberlain, within sight of the Oldham County sign. There
were additional flocks I did not check out in the fields along Chamberlain.
Falls of the Ohio had 25+ hooded mergs above the Falls, 4-5 redheads on the
river across the fossil beds from the Interpretive Center, 3 bufflehead, and
a handful of Am. pipits slightly downriver on the fossil beds. Did not spot
any snow buntings.

Bernheim Forest. Tried without success for golden eagles. Did find purple
finch, hermit thrush, fox sparrow, sharp-shinned hawk ...
