May 4

Caperton Swamp, Louisville - very little activity
* warblers:  orange-crowned, blackpoll, n. waterthrush (3), chestnut-sided,
Tennessee, Nashville, prothonotary, yellow-rumped, common yellowthroat 

Sinclair Unit, Peabody WMA
* Willets - 3 at lower ash basin at Paradise steam plant
* Bell's vireo - hill overlooking lower ash basin
* Henslow's sparrows
* whip-poor-will calling along S1


May 5

Fulton County
* merlin - Open Pond
* bobolinks - Open Pond and levee (also Ballard Co.).  Small groups of 3-5
birds.
* bald eagles - 6 juv. & 2 adults at Open Pond; eaglet on nest along levee;
4 more bald eagles at Long Point (Reelfoot)
* Mississippi kite - Long Point.  Circling with 7 black vultures.

Ballard County.  Boatwright Unit, Swan Pond WMA
* shorebirds:  1 short-billed dowitcher, 1 white-rumped sandpiper, 8 greater
yellowlegs, 12 lesser yellowlegs, 10 spotted, 15 semi plovers, 25 pectoral,
40 least.
* peregrine falcon flyover
* black-billed cuckoo
* Lincoln's sparrow

Kentucky Dam Village 
* 30+ common nighthawks riding the thermals, over the Ky. Dam Village Lodge
* chuck-will's-widow calling at dusk near cottage area


May 6

Land Between the Lakes, mainly Kentucky Lake Scenic Drive and Eddyville
Ferry Road
* despite very windy conditions, found 28 warbler species, including
blackburnian, hooded, Cape May, Kentucky, several beautiful male
bay-breasted, worm-eating.  No cerulean or golden-winged.
* vireos:  Philadelphia, red-eyed, white-eyed, warbling, yellow-throated
* thrushes:  veery, gray-cheeked, Swainson's, wood thrush (and robin and e.
bluebird)
* scissor-tailed flycatchers on telephone pole and electrical tower along
453 south of I-24 exit 31.  On north side of quarry entrance road.
* little blue herons at Kuttawa overlook.  Double-crested cormorants seem to
be much more common on the island. 

Sloughs WMA west of Henderson
* Mating pair of lark sparrows along Straightline Road.  
* 27 e. kingbirds in one bare field
* only a few, common shorebirds
At Hardy Slough
* fish crow
* heard marsh wren
* flushed 7 soras
* did not see the glossy ibis.
