[birdky] Logan County Bird Instead of Lunch

Birding instead of lunch today produced some interesting observations.

First at Scales Pond on Ellis Road in Central Logan County, a pair of Lesser 
Scaup was observed were previously, a male Scaup and 2 species of geese had 
been observed.  It is possible that the female eluded me on 2 previous 
observations, but I honestly believe she is new to this pond.

Desperate to find water, I went to far Eastern Logan County to the Crocker Farm 
Pond just west of the Simpson County Line on KY 100.  There I observed:

Rossâs Goose, 1
Mallard:  4
Blue-winged Teal:  8
Pectoral Sandpiper:  4
Wilsonâs Snipe:  7

It was a shock to see the Rossâs Goose.  It was associating with domestic 
geese.  I will do some double checking later in the season to see if it moves 
on or remains with the domestics.

I checked a couple of small streams for early warbler calls, but none were 
heard in the dead of the afternoon.

Numerous Horned Larks were observed along the rural roads as were 2 Brown 
Thrashers.  Also, the single largest planting of Canola I have observed in 
years was found between KY 100 and US 68.   I canât wait till it blooms.
