Thanks to all of you who sent me directions to the Lexington
Cemetery.....they were perfect. I went this morning around 9:45am
and searched sections 19, 20, 41, Henry Clay Statue and other sections
but found no White-winged Crossbills....or Pine Siskins. I spent
about 45 minutes looking up, down, listening, etc. I also saw no
other birders.
I decided to go on to the Minor Clark Fish Hatchery. There I found a
couple of Yellow Rumped Warblers and 5 Killdeer. Most of the ponds,
including the big ones are drained right now. I went on down the
road to Shallow Flats and only found 3 Buffleheads (2 males, 1 female)
and a male Hooded Merganser. At the Cave Run Dam I found about 2
dozen Coots and a Pied Billed Grebe.
On the way back home I again stopped at the Cemetery. Again after
45 minutes of checking all sections carefully I found no birds....or
birders. It was a big disappointment as I got shut out on Crossbills
at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati and St. Anne's Convent last
weekend. I'll give the Highland's Cemetery a shot tomorrow.
