After three fruitless trips searching for crossbills, I finally got there a
little after ten this morning and found the crossbills!
The cemetery was very quiet....apparently I was ahead of visitor activity, but
birds were extremely active.
I parked near the Henry Clay monument and walked to the Sunken Garden that has
the small round lily pond, close to the entrance. Lots of bird song and bird
activity there. Many, many robins, but also chickadee, titmouse, cardinal,
siskin?(not a 100% positive identifying look). I could hear woodpeckers tapping
but didn't spot them. And finally the crossbills. I saw them in the hemlocks
around an old stone receiving vault and section 7. They were near the tops of
the trees.
