A rather comical experience tonight at Spindletop. Driving uphill on
Agronomy Drive , which heads South away from the stream, a Bittern was
blown across the bow of my car. I knew an image was needed to save face,so
I reached back for the camera, braked, opened the door and somehow put the
car in park while trying to keep the bird in sight. It was dusk and I said
a few comments as I realized my lens cover was on! Moments later I was able
to see the bird as it changed altitudes quicker than an electron trying to
find a stable orbit. I am guaranteed a lifelong hobby of trying to master
electronics as I repeatedly pushed the shutter as I wondered what the ratio
of an actual photo happening was in relationship to me being a pusher. I
now know that it's about 1 in 8! I was wearing a cap, which the pop up
flash hit. Another expletive deletive. ..about the same ratio by the way.
The wind blew the door into me...notice a pattern? Anyway, one photo
actually had a bird, so I can't really complain. Amazing little flash. I
did not see the bird make it up the hill so I'm hoping it goes back to the
stream for the night.
Also 2 Tree Sparrows. The photo is on ebird. A feat in itself!
Good birding
