Hi all, I was birding Minor E Clark Fish Hatchery under Cave Run Dam in Rowan County last evening and was surprised by 9! species of waterfowl. All of the unexpected birds were in the 3 largest ponds closest to SR 801. Many Canada Geese 3 Wood Duck 5 Mallard 1 Pair of Blue-Winged Teal 1 Male Hooded Merganser (also had a female bird on 4/16) 2 Female Red-Breasted Merganser (had 8 females on 4/20 and 4/29, but not 4/30) 1 Female Bufflehead (5 on 4/16, and 1 female bird also seen on, 4/20 and 4/29, but not 4/30) 1 Male Ring-Necked Duck 1 Female Lesser Scaup Also had LOTS of swallows including Tree, Barn, N. Rough-wing, Cliff, and a few Banks. Only Shorebirds were several Spotted Sandpiper and Killdeer.
