[birdky] Ky/Barkley Lakes 24 September 2004

A trip to Kentucky/Barkley Lakes yesterday yielded the
following highlights:


Common Loon  Mouth of Little Bear Creek/Ky

PB Grebe  Ky Dam

Am. White Pelican   appr. 15 above Barkley Dam

Scattered Great, Snowy, and Cattle Egrets and LB
Herons


Shorebirds observed at Eddy Creek and Little River on
Barkley and Jonathan Creek on Kentucky.

Semipalmated Plover  
Gr. Yellowlegs  Eddy Creek
Lesser Yellowlegs  
Solitary Sandpiper  
Spotted Sandpiper  
Semipalmated Sandpiper  Little River
Western Sandpiper  
Least Sandpiper  
Pectoral Sandpiper
Stilt Sandpiper  11/Little River   5/Eddy Creek  1/Jon
Buff-breasted Sandpiper  2  Little River
Short-billed Dowitcher  1 juv/Jon

The level of the lakes is rising, and it was
interesting watching the Buff-breasteds wading
belly-deep in water to reach invertebrates.  

Laughing Gull (7)  Ky Dam area and Little Bear
                   6 1st yr. and a basic adult

Franklin's Gull   Adult below Ky Dam

Lesser Black-backed Gull   Adult at Kuttawa/Barkley

Common Tern  2 basic plumage at Jonathan Creek

Forster's Tern  125+  Jonathan Creek
