[birdky] Ky Lake - Red-throated Loon, March 23, 2003

I messed up and sent this to the old listserve address yesterday afternoon
. . .

This morning there was a basic-plumaged Red-throated Loon on Kentucky Lake
above the dam. It is essentially a first-winter bird, with a lot of gray
on the throat from juv. plumage still present, creating the "white-cheeked"
look. Also present were at least 10 Common Loons, several Pied-billed and
Horned Grebes, many Am Coots, and a smattering of ducks, mostly Lesser
Scaup and Bufflehead. While scanning the waterbirds, four species of
swallows were seen: Purple Martin, Tree Sw, N. Rgh-wg Sw, and Cliff Sw.
