[birdky] Kestrels again

Late yesterday(5-28-02) I was walking in this jungle that I'm calling
a yard, especially this rainy spring, and I saw the male kestrel fly
from his perch and attack something ,lower on the tree trunk. It was
a big brown snake ,whitish on the belly with its heavy fat body sup-
ported by a side branch.I'm really wondering what was in that snake's
gut.Its head looked very small compared with all that girth. I'm
wondering about the identity of the snake. I did not discern any splotches
on its topside.

And I still am unable to account for more than one fledling kestrel.
Also my blue birds that were in the nest box are gone. Hopefully
they have fledged .I lost track of the time that I last saw them
when they were in a semi-feathered stage. Joyce Porter Falls of
Rough, Ky.
