[birdky] KY Lake weekend

Friday night I kayaked over the top of the Blood River mud flats. No
shorebirds were to be found. Great Egrets, Caspian Tern, Blue-winged Teal,
Wood
ducks and oodles of Canada Geese were seen. Saturday David Roemer and I birded
around KY and Barkley Dams. One Laughing Gull, seen both above and below KY
Dam, was the most interesting gull. One Semipalmated Plover was the only
shorebird beside killdeer. There was very little exposed shore.
Sunday lake levels changed drastically. KY Lake was at 356.2 this morning
and will continue going down over the next few days. The Blood River mud flats
are once again exposed and birds started to drop in. Among the new arrivals
was one young Western Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpipers and Least Sandpipers.
At Jonathan Creek Forster's terns, Little Blue Heron, Snowy Egret and Wood
Ducks were surrounded by killdeer, other shorebirds should arrive in the next
few days.
