This is the Kentucky Bird Line, sponsored by the Kentucky Ornithological
Society. This update is current as of May 31, 2005 at 6:00 PM EDT. The
highlights of this update are:
The BRANT that has been in Pulaski County has not been seen since
Saturday morning the 28th; it was at the pump house location at that
time.
17 WHITE IBIS were reported on the 29th as flyovers in Pike County.
A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was seen in Christian county on the 28th in
the vicinity of mile marker 74 on 1-24.
Late warblers would include a male BLACK-THROATED BLUE in Burnside on
the morning of the 31st; a BLACKPOLL in Pike County on the 30th; and a
MOURNING WARBLER in Jefferson County on the 31st.
A number of shore birds were reported from different locales. On
Horseshoe Road in the Henderson sloughs a RUDDY TURNSTONE, 10 DUNLIN, 20
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 3 LEAST TERN, 5 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, and 1
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were viewed on the 31st. WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and
another RUDDY TURNSTONE were reported from the Union County Peabody Coal
Plant.
On the 29th at Smithland Dam tailwaters 5 BLACK TERN, and 36 LEAST TERN
were observed. From Lake Barkley Dam a 1st year FRANKLIN'S GULL, and a
HERRING GULL, along with LESSER SCAUP, and A GOLDENEYE, and a PIE-BILLED
GREBE were reported. And a COMMON LOON in basic plumage was at the
Kentucky Lake Dam on the 29th.
