[birdky] KY & Barkley Dams 3/5/05

Eighteen observers enjoyed the BBC/KOS Field trip at KY & Barkley Dams
yesterday. Gulls were a bit scarce. We did find 5 species including a very
cooperative Thayer's gull that allowed David Roemer to give a few lessons in
identification. Fifteen species of ducks were seen with a beautiful male
Long-tailed Duck as the highlight. Listed are a few of the highlights.
Common Loon - 1
Horned Grebe
American White Pelican - hundreds
Greater Scaup
Red-breasted Merganser - in breeding plumage
Black Vulture
Bald Eagle - 3 Adult
Bonaparte's Gull
Lesser Black-back gull - 2
Tree Swallow - 1
Brown Creeper - 1
Savannah Sparrow - 3
All totaled we had 65 species.
Thanks to all who participated. It is always fun spending time in the field
with fellow birders.
