I and KBS thank Steve Kistler for his recent post regarding Cub Run's School Bluebird project. Follow-up info for those interested: Cub Run is one of about forty KY Schools participating in the KBS Outdoor Classroom Enrichment Program (so far). Teacher and student feedback on this program has been more than excellent! About half of the schools have installed one or more KBS Bluebird boxes on their campus containing a video/sound camera with 65 ft. of cable. The installation is simple. KBS offers up to five free NABS approved KBS boxes, posts and hardware for all KY schools wishing to participate and properly manage a Bluebird trail. The cam box is sold at or below cost for $65 to KY schools. For more info. see the KBS web site at: http://www.biology.eku.edu/kybluebirds.html Also see: http://www.biology.eku.edu/KEEP.html for info. on how the public and schools can learn about and help our KY Ospreys. These sites have direct links to Cornell University where an active KY Osprey nest and two KY Bluebird nests can be viewed during daylight hours with images refres hing every thirty seconds. The Osprey eggs should be hatching around May 13 ! The school nest box cams provide live real time moving images and sound to classrooms as opposed to still images. The above KY web sites (provided by Eastern KY University - thanks Gary) are also linked to KOS. KBS and KEEP encourages all participating schools to view and study all birds and habitats during their classes and to incorporate bird study in other study areas.
