One brief musing on the recent news ...
As I read through the materials on the rediscovery of Ivory-billed
Woodpeckers in Arkansas with as much excitement as anyone, I can't help but
reflect back on the last time I read and listened to evidence of existence
of a presence of quite a different type ... that being the "slam dunk"
evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. One is certainly
overwhelmed by the degree of analysis of the evidence needed to make the
case and is ultimately left with a reliance on human beings for the final
assessment of credibility. Hopefully this evidence has been collected,
assimilated, interpreted, and presented in a more critical and scholarly and
objective manner, and that it's conclusions will be unequivocally borne out
in the future. Here's to hoping there's a sighting for all of us ... :o)
