[birdky] INFO: KY-IN boundary at the Falls of the Ohio

Kentucky has enough river bed in the Falls area that it's actually pretty hard
to get a good waterbird within the state of Indiana. The fossil bed that
extends out from the Indiana shoreline both below the State Park overlook and
the "willow grove" extending out from the shore up towards the upper gates of
McAlpine Dam are Indiana, as is a shelf that becomes exposed only at very low
water levels down below Wave Rock. I will never forget "ticking" the Sabine's
Gull that was at the Falls in September 1984 for Indiana ... it had come over
to the fossil bed that extends out below the overlook because there were
minnows trapped in some small pools when the water receded ... the bird was
very tame and allowed us to approach within about 10 feet; it even ate small
fish that we got out of the pools and tossed to it!

Landbirds are a different matter ... with all of the nice riparian habitat
along the shoreline, many landbirds reported from the Falls of the Ohio are in
Indiana.
