[birdky] Hummingbirds and owls

8-30-2007

I think because of the lack of rain, and few wildflowers (jewelweed, etc.) able to bloom because of it, has brought the most hummers to our feeders we have ever experienced. Hummingbirds swarm eight feeders nearly daybreak to dark and have consumed five pounds + of sugar in the last three days. We have large patches of hummer flowers (which Diane and I give some water) and those are loaded with hummers also.

We received word of a family of owls that had been in a yard in northwest Lincoln Co. all summer. We went there and saw a Barn Owl. The owner said there had been five and that they have nested there for several years. Took a few rather dark photos.

For the last three weeks, there have been three Screech Owls in our yard about every night. I was able to get some good photos a couple of nights.
