This has not been a good year for hummers here in my backyard. We have only
seen one who just visits the feeder occasionally. Changing the water does no
good. We usually have 2-3. A friend who lives nearby has had the same
experience.

Subject: [birdky] Hummingbirds
Joanie and I saw our first juvenile hummers of the season on July 20 and they
have increased steadily in number since. For those who don't live in an area
with nesting hummers and don't have them during early summer, now is the time
to put out feeders. With juvs fledging and adults moving after breeding being
over, August and September are peak months for hummer numbers and also a good
time for vagrants. Look at those hummers closely and please report any that
may be suspected of being something other than a Ruby-throated.
