I was out in Meadowbrook Park, south Lexington, a few days ago. Around about
4pm, a very large bird swooped in and alighted atop a tree about 40 yards from
me. I didn't have my binoculars, but I am pretty sure it was an owl, and one
with conspicuous ear tufts--I don't have any prior experience with owls--but my
guess is it was a Great Horned Owl. I don't know if they are so common as to
be not worth reporting, but it was exciting to a beginner like myself! The
Bluejays were giving him hell!
Best birding wishes,

p.s. Also fun little residents of this park are the Kinglets, I have had
excellent looks at both Golden-Crowned and Ruby-Crowned Kinglets.
