I didn't start out yesterday trying to see how many birds I could see, but it turned out that way. The morning was overcast and foggy, the one late afternoon trip was hot and humid. Saw 52 species in all!! I only went to my normal places: Airport Road - 35 species, Hays Station Road - 7 additional species, Monroe Road - 6 additional species and finally Menzie's Bottom Road - 4 additional species. Saw all of the usual suspects but had some interesting ones as well. From the 4 locations I found the pileated , red-bellied, flicker, hairy, downey, and red- head woodpeckers, green and great blue herons, Baltimore and orchard orioles, cedar waxwings, common yellow throat and prairie warblers and the find of the day - bald eagle. Anyone who would like to see the whole list, let me know. All in all quite a day in the rural community. I hope we can preserve this wonderful mixed habitat with the approaching 4 lane highway project and the associated increased in human population. Barb Dickison Pendleton County
