[birdky] Golden Eagle at McElroy 21 February 2009

An adult or subadult Golden Eagle was present at McElroy Lake in Warren County 
today.  It spent a couple of hours soaring in the area as well as making 
several unsuccessful stoops at waterfowl, including a spectacular vertical one 
from high above the water.  It rested on the edge of the lake several times and 
was last seen perched in the woodlot near Meng Road.   

The flock of Sandhill Cranes was gone and 3 or 4 groups totalling 
approxiomately 40 birds passed over the lake.  Waterfowl numbers were also way 
down today with fewer species present.  The lake is dropping quickly and will 
likely be just scattered pools by the end of the weekend. 

There were 3 American Tree Sparrows feeding in the yard today.
