I have three Purple Martins in Lexington. I always first notice them on
a Saturday every year. I don't expect they are aware of our calendar,
but it was Saturday once again. I was in the process of cleaning the
martin house out when the first one showed. He came down for a close
inspection, and tried to land on top as it was being returned to
position. There is not a happier sound than a martin.
