[birdky] Evening Grosbeak in Magoffin County?

Greetings all  

 

I saw our first pair of Brown Creepers today.  Other unusual backyard
visitors included white throated sparrows and a Hermit Thrush.  We also saw
Chipping sparrows earlier in the week.

 

Around 10 AM, my wife called me to the window but her target had departed
before I made it.  She reported seeing a large stocky yellow and black bird
at a feeder with about 10 purple finches.  The flock did not return.  Could
she have seen an Evening Grosbeak?  I haven't noticed many or any in other
reports to the list serve.

 

We live in a sparsely populated region near the Mountain Parkway about 25
miles east of Campton, 30 miles south of Morehead and 30 miles west of
Paintsville and Prestonsburg.

 

Our large flocks of goldfinches and siskins seem to have recently departed
to visit Joan's place in Pike County.  :-)
