On Monday evening and Tuesday morning (5/26 and 5/27), we had an Eastern
Kingbird in the field and near the pond. It went into a display for any
available females, but none were around. Haven't seen it since.
We had our first Ruby -Throated Hummingbird of the season.
Our baby Bluebirds "disappeared" last week. The nest seemed undisturbed,
and we did not find evidence below the nest of anything. The parents are
still around and seem to want to nest again, but they won't settle into a
house. We have cleaned all the empty houses, but something seems to have the
birds spooked.
We had a family reunion in Davies County over the holiday weekend, and my
brother-in-law pointed out a new bird in his backyard. It was a Eurasian
Collard-Dove. There were 2 that we saw, and he says he sometimes has 4 come
to his yard. They mingle with the other doves and grackles, etc. He lives
in an older neighborhood on the east side of Owensboro.
At home in LaRue County over the holiday, we saw
