[birdky] EKBC Purple Martin Trip

For anyone who was considering attending the search for a purple martin
roost near Maysville tomorrow, we will meet at 7:30 pm instead of 7:00
pm. Staff at the Purple Martin Conservation Association said that birds
begin trickling in to their roost near Erie, PA around 8:00 pm with the
majority zooming in at 9:00 pm. There is less than a 10 minute
difference in sunset times between Maysville, KY and Erie, PA, so timing
should be similar for the arrival of the martins. From the topo map, I
could see 4 potential roosting areas for martins around Maysville. A
city park and a cemetery may have big trees suitable for the birds.
Simon Kenton Bridge over the Ohio River is a good bet. A power plant on
the Ohio side of the river may be a suitable site as well. I will bring
maps for 2 groups to split up and search these sites and others. Please
let me know if you plan to attend. Thanks.
