[birdky] Dams and Sloughs quick trip. March 27.

Sat. morning at the dams.
* Barred owl about 6:30 a.m. sitting in small tree within 20 feet of the
road leading to Ky. Dam powerhouse.

* Caspian tern about 7:00 a.m. flew over Ky. Dam, coming from below the dam.

* Glaucous gull above Ky. Dam. Matt Stickel spotted near the sailboat
marina near Grand Rivers.

* Lesser black-backed gull. Adult on spit of land to right of heronry
island at Kuttawa overlook. I've seen this bird very reliably there for
months now.

* Cal. gull took a lot of searching. We finally found it about 11:30 a.m.
floating on the water below Ky. Dam (viewed from boat ramp area).

Sloughs (w. of Henderson)

* Lots of shorebirds (both yellowlegs, pectoral, Wilson's snipe), dabbling
ducks, singing brown thrashers, and rusty blackbirds. Also a few barn
swallows. Best find was:

* Dowitcher species mid-afternoon. One bird in back area west of road that
goes back to Hardy Slough. Matt and I got decent looks through scopes.
Bird did not vocalize when it flew. If I absolutely had to make a guess,
I'd say it was either a short-billed or a long-billed.
