On my way home from an enjoyable KOS meeting I made a quick stop
at Barkley and KY Dams. The Scissor-tailed flycatcher was on the wires along
hwy 453 not far from last years nest. A stop at Barkley Dam produces a
thermal of American White Pelicans, a gulp of DC Cormorants, Black-crowned
night herons, Ring-billed and Herring Gulls, Forster's and Caspian Terns.
Cliff Swallows are busy nesting at both dams and the gulls were suffering in
the heat on top of the KY Lake Marina. Common Loons, Bonaparte's gull and
MANY fishing folk enjoying the warm sunny day.
