Few days ago I walked the West Hickman Creek from Armstrong Mill Rd downstream
to Tates Creek Rd, and saw a big mature Black Crowned Night Heron, and a "duck"
I couldn't identify or find in any book, reddish browinish overall, longish
(relative to mallards) neck white from under the chin down to breast, kinda
continued a little bit as a streak on the back. I'm not good at the water
species yet, I just know a very few. Had several young with it all with the
same pattern discernable in their fluffy plumage.
Out at Veteran's Park yesterday, saw a Prairie Warbler and a Black and White
Warbler. Chats and Yellow billed Cuckoos have been consistent.
Best birding wishes,
Ben Albritton
