[birdky] Casual life bird

Many of us bird at a subconscious level no matter where we are or what
we are doing.  My family will attest to this as I am usually birding
while driving, conversing with my wife, or any other time I am awake.
Quite often; I don't even realize I'm doing it.  This condition of mine
(our's) caught me by surprise this afternoon.  I'm working nights this
week and woke up about 3:30 p.m. As I made my way to the fridge I paused
at the kitchen window to check one of my feeders.  Mentally I ran down
the names of my visitors: 4 house finches, 2 titmice, 2 pine siskin and
continued on to the refrigerator.  While digging around for something to
eat that little alarm in my head went off "PINE SISKIN?"!!!  Yes
everyone else seems to post pine siskin all the time but I've never
found one in my neck of the woods.  After a few photos and a brief
explanation to my non birding wife of the magnitude of my new
yard/state,life bird, (She nodded while I talked but I don't think it
sank in) I was amazed at how nonchalantly I could identify a life bird,
walk off, and not even realize what I had seen for several seconds.
Even so, it seems more exciting for me to find a life bird by surprise.
Don't get me wrong,  I enjoy driving 3 hours on the possibility of
finding a bird someone has staked out.  But I don't think it will ever
replace the feeling I get when I stumble on something that has eluded me
for several years.
