Hello again!
I have just seen a family of Carolina Wrens hanging around a bush in the
yard... at least 4 of them! Is it safe to assume that this is a mother,
father, and fledgelings? I didn't have my bins with me to get a close look
at them all. There were some strange noises coming from them, however!
Sounded like a raspy/hoarse call. I'm assuming it was begging, but I have
no sound samples/examples to compare.
Also, I have been watching a pair of White-breasted Nuthatches take food in
and fecal sacs out of a hole in a tree in the yard. Well, today, I found
the remains of a bird on the ground directly beneath the hole. I can't tell
if it's a whole/partial baby bird or just a piece of an adult. Very small
feathers, less than a centimeter long, 3/4s with and 1/4 (the tip) black.
Flipped over, there are brownish/yellowish feathers. Any ideas? I hope
it's not one of the nuthatch babies! I haven't seen them come out of the
nest, but I haven't had time to watch the area the last few days, either.
There are many, many American Goldfinches nearby, however, as I have a
thistle feeder on a tree next to the nuthatch tree.
