[birdky] Breeding Bird Survey

I spent this fabulous morning running my BBS route
which originates in Warren County and terminates in
Allen near Barren Reservoir. Seventy-eight species
were recorded with a few misses.

The highlight of the route was at least one singing
Henslow's Sparrow in a field along AR Oliver Road in
Allen County, a count first.

Cooper's Hawks were recorded at a few stops, and
interestingly, every one observed was carrying
prey...busy feeding young.

Red-tailed Hawk, Orchard Oriole, and R-t Hummingbird
numbers were above average I believe, and Blue
Grosbeak numbers were strong also.

Missed this year were Baltimore Oriole along a stretch
where I usually record them, and Yellow-throated
Warbler and N. Parula. I usually try to run this
route at least a week earlier and thought maybe it was
a little late for the missed warblers, but both missed
species were singing in the backyard when I got home.
