Sunday I finally got out in the late afternoon in between the rains. The only
thing I found was a Horned Grebe at Camp Ernst Lake. Down at the Covington
Landing there were 5 American Black Ducks. The Black Ducks have been around
all winter but I have never seen more than 3 in the past.
Monday I only found 1 Ring-necked duck (male) and a Pied-billed Grebe at
Marydale. However I saw my first Eastern Phoebe of the season there.
This morning I found 4 Northern Shovelers (2 male and 2 female) at Marydale.
To my sadness, Marydale has been sold and I don't know how much longer I'll be
able to get back there to bird. It's been a treasure chest of birds these
past few years.
My best birds continue to be my Red-headed Woodpecker pair have continued to
stay in my backyard since last spring. They nested last year and I'm hoping
that they stay and nest again.
