[birdky] Blue... bird?

My son just moved to Crescent Hill area and this weekend put up a bird feeder. 
He and his daughter both got a good look at a bird on that feeder this evening. 
He insists that it looked like a house finch but had blue where the house fish 
is reddish. Is it possible it was a blue grosbeak in that heavily congested 
area? I sent him links to the Cornell web site and he said it was not an indigo 
bunting or female cowbird, but fit the description of an immature male 
grosbeak.  He is not a birder, not even an amateur one.  :-)
